Recreational program

The recreation program curriculum follows Breakers FC’s philosophy based on the developmental model from US Soccer that emphasizes a sequence of acquiring technical skills according to each child’s level of ability, interest, and maturity.

Overview

Our Grassroots philosophy is dedicated to empowering our volunteer coaches with an array of information, instruction, concepts, theories, and specific traits to help each player establish a foundation of fundamental skill on and off the field with the ultimate goal of strengthening the culture within Breakers FC and US soccer from the ground up.

The recreational curriculum provides its volunteer coaching staff with a specific pathway for the duration of the 12-week program. The quality of this relationship directly affects overall success, strengthens the emotional intelligence of its members, and fosters a sense of pride throughout the entire club.

Breakers FC has dedicated its efforts to the development of youth soccer players while providing opportunities that promote healthy living, good sportsmanship, and the establishment of leadership skills. We encourage all players to use soccer as a vehicle to pursue an education and create a foundation for their future on and off the field.

The recreational program is for players who want to have fun and learn the fundamentals of soccer.

Santa Cruz Breakers Rec Program Information

Santa Cruz Breakers are committed to developing and maintaining a high quality Rec Soccer program for boys in Santa Cruz County.  Our program is built on the principle that all young players deserve access to high quality coaching.  To accomplish this, we will be using the concept of Platform Training in our player development clinics.  This means that each group will train together, with practice plans developed and implemented by our professional coaching staff.  Additionally, our high school players will be assisting with practices, providing demonstrations of drills and technique, as well as helping individual players as needed.  Once allowed, in addition to training, all players will enjoy weekly games to have fun and test their new skills.

We believe that youth soccer should be a fun experience for players.  Getting outside, making friends, and playing a great game are important.  Experience has shown that kids also like to see themselves improve in their level of play.  It’s fun to learn new skills and try them out.  We are creating an environment that teaches and supports young players as they learn the game.  Every player advances at a different pace, and our professional staff can help all players learn to love the game.

FAQs

Not anymore.  Creating a Rec soccer program is something we aspired to do for years.  The time is now, and we are thrilled to get it going.  The travel and time commitment for competitive soccer is not a fit for all families.  We believe that all players should have access to quality coaching regardless of what level they play at.
Yes.  We will have room for parents to coach individual teams, it is a great experience for many parents.  What you don’t have to worry about is coming up with training plans.  Your team will be practicing under the direction and supervision of our professional coaches. You will help players move through the drills, but you will have club support from our coaches and experienced competitive players.  While your players develop skill, you will develop as a coach.
We plan to have teams for players aged 6-12 to begin with. As the program progresses we may be able to expand that.
Our competitive teams are chosen from tryouts, so tryouts are required. For those players who wish to move into the competitive program, we believe our rec trainings will equip them for success by teaching proper technique at each stage of the learning process.

The Breakers Recreational League is designed to serve players with an in-house local league experience augmented by quality training.  Each team will have a parent volunteer coach who is guided by Breakers professional coaches and curriculum.  The Breakers game model will be reinforced at the various levels of play - consistent with USSF mandates and FFF development practices.
